Automata has been around for as long as humans have wanted to entertain themselves. Originally, automatons were commissioned by wealthy patrons from the town tinkerers or artists. With the rise in mechanical manufacturing, and then plastics, movable entertainments became available to the masses and children in particular as toys.
This particular gourd automata, Dancing Fiesta Chickens, has been made using miniature bottleneck gourds, gourd scraps, a spinner gourd, and pieces of cherry wood. The full image of the chickens is below.
